Wedding Invitations

It’s wedding season! I have about four weddings these next few months, I’ve seen about 8 engagements in this year two which were on the same day, and I have found myself planning a perfect wedding on Pinterest! All this making my status as a single kind of depressing – or so I thought!

You see this culture (especially among Hispanics) says that I must be in a relationship to be happy. Let me give you a bit of information that will come useful later on – if you’re unhappy as a single you will be unhappy as a couple. Bad example: it takes two complete eggs to make an omelette not half of an egg. You need to be a whole person in order to function correctly with another person!

I came to the realization a few weeks ago that if I wasn’t single I would have not graduated from an amazing Bible school, gone to Africa, or be preparing for a six week trip to a Central Asian country! You see it is true what it says in the Bible – there is a time and a season for everything under the sun, (Eccl. 3) and that includes marriage. Be content in this time and season God has you in! The apostle Paul tells us, “I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstance.” (Phil. 4:10-12)

Enjoy it – go on a cruise – finish school – save money – serve your community – do something. Learn to be content in your status. To all my sisters who are committed, your season isn’t that bad either but don’t make us single sisters feel left out and don’t try to get us a date with your man’s friend, cousin, brother, nephew etc.

So in conclusion, it’s ok to not date. It’s ok to not want to date. It’s ok to do things alone (ex., movies, dinner etc…) It’s ok to show up at weddings without a date (you don’t have to worry about matching or someone being tacky). It’s ok to take your mom or dad as a date (mine love to attend weddings maybe that’s why I say that) and it’s ok to not be at home waiting for Prince Charming to come and sweep you off your feet!!

Learning to be a full egg,

Abby Rea
